Why Eddy Grid was the investment that changed everything for 3HSF

This week, Eddy Grid announced that it has raised €7.5 million in a new funding round. The company’s valuation is now more than 20 times higher than it was two years ago.

For us, this is more than just another investment update.

Three years ago, we — Thijs Verheul and Sjuul Berden — invested in Eddy Grid. At the time, 3HSF didn’t even exist. We were simply two entrepreneurs who became convinced by an exceptional team working on one of the biggest challenges of our generation: making the energy grid smarter.

That investment ultimately became one of the main reasons we started 3HSF.

What stood out to us from day one was the speed of execution. Where many startups take months to make decisions, Eddy Grid was building at a pace we had rarely seen before. That speed is still reflected in the numbers today.

In less than two years, Eddy Grid has grown into the largest independent energy optimiser in the Netherlands, with more than 500 MW under management. Eddy Grid’s customers now produce more electricity than the city of Utrecht consumes. The team has grown from 16 to 60 employees, and the company is already cash-flow positive. Revenue grew by nearly 900% in 2025, with another exceptional year of growth expected.

The new round was funded almost entirely by existing investors, including Graduate Ventures and Volve Capital. In addition, nearly €1 million in secondary transactions took place for existing shareholders. These are the kinds of signals you only see when investors have strong confidence in a company’s future.

What makes Eddy Grid special is that it doesn’t just benefit from the energy transition — it solves a fundamental problem. As solar farms, wind turbines and batteries are increasingly combined behind a single grid connection, the complexity of energy management increases exponentially. This is exactly where Eddy Grid excels: real-time optimisation of energy assets, enabling customers to generate higher returns while making more efficient use of the energy grid.

For us, Eddy Grid is the best-performing investment we have made to date.

Not just because of the increase in valuation, but above all because it perfectly represents what we believe in: exceptional founders, enormous markets and companies solving fundamental problems.

Looking back, Eddy Grid gave us the confidence to expand our investment activities and ultimately launch 3HSF. It showed us what can happen when you invest early in ambitious entrepreneurs building something with the potential to become truly significant.

We’re proud to have been shareholders for the past three years and are incredibly excited about the company’s next chapter.

Congratulations to Sam Rohn, Renno de Jong, Maxim Sprey and the entire Eddy Grid team on this new milestone.
